NECO Releases 2026 SSCE Results: Fewer Malpractice Cases Recorded

NECO Releases 2026 SSCE Results: Fewer Malpractice Cases Recorded

The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). The Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, shared the details at a press briefing on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Of the 1,378,048 candidates who registered, 1,371,992 sat the exam. About 804,948 of them, roughly 58.67%, earned at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics, the combination most tertiary institutions ask for. When English and Mathematics are left out of the count, 1,126,118 candidates passed at least five subjects at credit level.

Cheating cases fell sharply. NECO recorded 1,496 candidates involved in malpractice this year, compared with 3,878 in 2025.

Prof. Wushishi credited the shift to computer-based testing. Answering on a computer, he said, has made cheating harder and helped reduce malpractice across NECO examinations.

What it means

Fewer malpractice cases suggest the move to computer-based exams is working. Candidates can now check their results and start planning their next steps, whether that is university admission, further training, or the job market.

Two of the percentages in the original don't add up, so I left them out. 1,126,118 out of 1,371,992 is about 82.08%, not 84.70%. And the fall from 3,878 to 1,496 is about 61.4%, not 64.74%. Check NECO's official release before publishing.
